On June 6th, 2023, two students from the Faculty of Technology at the University of Echahid Hamma Lakhdar, Khiari Ahmed Khiari and Mahmoud Ayba, discussed their graduation memorandum for their master’s degree. Their work falls under the emerging institution patent guidelines by Ministerial Resolution 1275. The students presented three inventions. One of the inventions, a trademarked label related to transportation was presented by Khiari Ahmed Khayari. The other two inventions, an intelligent stick and talking glasses for the blind, were created in collaboration with Mahmoud Aiba.
The discussion session was attended by several individuals, including the University Rector, Prof. Omar Farhati, his Deputy for External Relations, Prof. Habib Guedda, the Director of the Business Incubator, Mohamed Fouad Farhat, several professors, students, and their parents. The discussion committee consisted of six members, which included the committee head, Dr. Shuaib Al-Abyad; examiners, Dr. Mesbah Al-Awamer and Dr. Mansouri Khaled, representative of the incubator. The supervisor of the work of the two students, Dr. Hakima Al-Sharif and her assistant, Dr. Alaq Nusseibeh, and an economic partner who was a representative of the Directorate of Solidarity and Social Activity.
The rector of the University gave a speech before the discussion session, where he praised the students for their achievements in research projects that turned into patents for the benefit of society. He mentioned specific projects such as the Safir application for transporting goods, smart sticks, and talking glasses for the blind. The rector also acknowledged the committee that evaluated the research projects and commended the incubator’s director for supporting and guiding the students. These innovative projects are part of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s strategy to support students and transform the university into a contributor to economic and social development by solving significant problems through innovation.
Dr. Hakima Al-Sharif supervised the graduation notes of two excellent students. She explained that Khiari Ahmed Khiari invented the Safeer application, which can be downloaded online. The application connects people who want to transport goods with drivers, making it easy to transport goods from anywhere. After creating a free account and registering personal information, customers can choose the vehicle, type of goods, and delivery area. The driver then sends a specified price for the load, and upon approval, the goods are transported to the specified place. The invention received an investment offer from economic operators in Oran, the capital and the Sultanate of Oman.
During a discussion session, two students from El Oued University in Algeria presented their innovative projects. Khiari Ahmed Khiari and Mahmoud Aiba collaborated on two inventions designed to help the blind. The first is an intelligent stick that uses an ultrasonic sensor to detect obstacles and alert the blind through sound and ringing. The second invention is smart glasses with an AI camera that takes pictures of obstacles and recognises them via a pre-trained algorithm. The obstacle’s name is converted into a listening voice through a headset connected to the glasses.
Additionally, the incubator organised a technology exhibition showcasing the most important innovations achieved by students. The Rector of the University, his deputy in charge of external relations, discussion committee members, professors, students, and their parents were all impressed by the innovations presented.
